Dredging the ports of Saint Jean de Luz and Larraldénia
Historic know-how
The Syndicat Intercommunal de la Baie de Saint-Jean-de-Luz (intermunicipal board for the St.-Jean-de-Luz Bay) and the Conseil Général for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Department have joined forces for the dredging of their respective ports, one a yacht marina, and the other a fishing port.
VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial dredged both ports down to their original depth, after it had sedimented with some 2 m of ooze.
Calling into play the Seine backhoe dredger and the Loctudy self-propelled split barge, some 15,000 m³ of materials were dredged, and then had to be dumped at sea in the immersion zone to seaward of Saint-Jean-de-Luz bay, all in less than 4 months.

EXTENSION AND DREDGING WORKS AT THE PORT OF LOME (Togo, Guinea coast)
A varied array of equipment and expertise
Situated at the south-west end of the country, along the shore of the Gulf of Guinea, Lomé is the capital of Togo. Its support, one of the largest in West Africa, is vital to the city's economy. Bolloré Africa Logistics, a subsidiary of the French Bolloré group, operates the port under a concession. It issued an invitation to tender the construction of a new wharf for berthing high-capacity container carriers.
This contract was awarded to a consortium of VINCI companies, comprising VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial International, Soletanche Bachy and Sogea Satom, calling on VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial's multifarious expertise to carry out the following:
- driving a composite Combiwall anchor wall with 141 stakes and 163 sheet-piles.
- installing the anchor wall with its 152 tie rods;
- dredging approximately 1,500,000 m³, with hydraulic discharge on the beach and disposal at sea;
- cutting away a 100,000 m³ bar of sandstone bank.
VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial invested for the purpose in a new, particularly high-performance dredger with which the entire port was dredged to a depth of 15 m, as against an initial depth of only 2 to 3 m.
