Ouistreham
Nautical access improvement works at the port of Caen/Ouistreham (Manche and Calvados).
- Site / Location : Port of Caen/Ouistreham
- Customer : PNA (Ports Normands Associés)
- Duration : 8 months
Project Description
The installation of a new ship guidance system will optimise nautical access conditions and manoeuvring through locks by opening up access to wider vessels. The 28.4-m wide lock currently only allows boats up to 24 m wide to pass through.
VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial teams are establishing an embankment system, positioned upstream and downstream of the west lock of the port of Caen/Ouistreham, which will allow wider boats (27.5 m) to be accommodated with larger tonnages (25,000 tonnes compared to 20,000 tonnes today), secure the lock entrance and exit and also reduce weather hazards when entering the port.
The work began in October 2018, with completion scheduled for June 2019.
