BANYULS-SUR-MER PORT

VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial is carrying out renovations at Banyuls-sur-Mer port (French Pyrenees) in order to protect it from bad weather conditions and to preserve local biodiversity.

  • Site / Location : Banyuls-sur-mer
  • Customer : Banyuls-sur-mer town hall
  • Duration : 9 months

Project Description

The renovation work, started in October 2019, aims to protect the port from bad weather, while preserving the underwater biodiversity of the 650 hectares of the Banyuls/Cerbère area, classified as a natural reserve since 1974.
To preserve the site’s biodiversity, specific structures will be installed by VINCI Construction Maritime et Fluvial. For example, anti-turbidity dams will prevent suspended matter from moving towards the Posidonia meadows. Also, the building of a vertical head, under the lighthouse of the port, will prevent the rocks from damaging the Posidonia meadows which are at the entrance of the port.
